Kier Group plc is looking to recruit an Accountant to join our Finance Shared Service Centre (FSSC) in Manchester. The successful candidate will be responsible for the execution of comprehensive general accounting and period closing activities, liaising with the Finance Manager, Record to Report Manager and Business Unit contacts on a daily basis to provide updates on financial performance and provide additional insight, through reporting and commentary as required.
Location: Manchester - hybrid working available, with 1 day per week required at our Head Office in Manchester
Hours: 37.5 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us
What will you be responsible for?
As an Accountant, you'll be working within the Finance Shared Service Centre team, supporting them in general accounting and period closing activities within the Finance Shared Service Centre
Your day to day will include:
- Overseeing the management and maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all transactions.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, promptly resolving discrepancies.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS).
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including preparing journal entries and performing account reconciliations.
- Provide line management oversight for Assistant Accountants, delegating tasks and reviewing their work.
What are we looking for?
This role of Accountant is great for you if:
- Part or fully qualified (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/etc.) with experience in an operational finance role.
- Line management capabilities.
- Knowledge of current regulations including IFRS / UK GAAP, Companies Acts etc.
- Good knowledge of core financial systems and general accounting procedures.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (particularly MS Excel).
- Knowledge of FSSC equivalent systems, processes, and workflow technology.
- In depth knowledge of ERP software (ORACLE would be preference, SAP experience acceptable).
