Tell us about your time at Kier?
I joined Kier in the business development team, which gave me a good understanding of the business. I then moved over to the social value team last January to try something new and gain further experience in a different role.
Tell us about your current role?
As a Social Sustainability Co-ordinator, my tasks vary greatly, making each week unique and enjoyable. I work with our sites to develop social value plans that benefit the local community, such as collaborating with schools, local charities, and colleges for work experience and T-levels. I frequently attend school engagement events to introduce careers in engineering, particularly to young women.
Our team's biggest impact is the targeted local support we provide through volunteering or hosting work experience placements. I enjoy this role because it allows me to make a positive difference in the local community.
What makes you proud to work at Kier?
The people around me, especially my team. There are so many people to learn from in Kier, and I like how supportive the company is in helping you find your passion. Kier also offers some great programmes, such as Empower, where you can really expand your skills and network with colleagues throughout the business.
I’m also grateful to Kier for helping me find a role I feel passionate about, for developing my career, and for helping me make a meaningful impact on the world around me.
How do you feel about being nominated for the Education Outreach award at the Women in Utilities Awards?
I was so surprised! The nomination came at a good time and gave me confidence in what I was doing; I felt grateful that my team thought of me and put me forward for the award. I'm passionate about getting more women into the industry and educating them that Kier has so many different roles. I'm really looking forward to the award ceremony to celebrate the success of women across the industry.
What advice would you give those just starting their career?
Don't put so much pressure on yourself to figure out what you want to do. Going out, trying new things, and gaining experience will help you discover what you enjoy. So, just go into everything with an open mind and say yes to any opportunities that come your way.
