An apprenticeship at Kier gives you the opportunity to grow and develop your skills with a wide range of opportunities available to support your career within the built environment.
Starting from Level 2 apprenticeships all the way through to degree level, we’re committed to supporting our apprentices with structured training, reviews and open conversations around career progression.
An apprenticeship is a paid job that combines practical experience with training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
It’s a fantastic scheme to take important steps into a career, giving you the opportunity to gain practical skills and academic knowledge all whilst earning a competitive salary.
From civil engineering to human resources, quantity surveying to business administration, health and environmental to highways maintenance, we have a wide range of exciting apprenticeship opportunities available.
As an apprentice at Kier, you’ll join the busy, exciting world of construction, learning as you earn. We want our apprentices to feel valued and a part of the team which is why all apprentices will join Kier on a permanent contract rather than the traditional temporary contracts you’ll find at most other employers.
Whilst on an apprenticeship course, you’ll be required to spend 20% of your working hours towards your qualification. This can include studying at college, or online sessions with your training provider.
The other 80% is spent gaining practical experience in the job role you are undertaking at Kier.
As part of your journey with us, we offer different types of qualifications as highlighted in red below.
We are committed to providing opportunities for all and an apprenticeship at Kier is a fantastic way to learn new skills and pursue a new career whether you’re a school leaver or someone with a wealth of experience looking for a new challenge.
Each role may have its own specific requirements which will always be listed in the job advert, but generally apprenticeships are for everyone provided you are:
aged 16 and over living and eligible to work in the UK not in full-time education
Before you complete your apprenticeship, you will need a level 2 in maths and english which your training provider will support you with once you start your training if you do not already have these.
Want to know something cool? You could earn a degree without incurring a single penny of student debt through a degree apprenticeship at Kier.
Your course can take 4 - 5 years to complete, and at the end you’ll have a recognised BSc qualification from one of our university partners.
During that time, you’ll be permanently employed by Kier, gain valuable work experience and have all your tuition and accommodation fees covered by us. There may be pre-determined block weeks throughout the course for you to go to university, attend lectures and meet other people on your course.
This degree prepares you for a number of roles including construction management, planning, business information modelling (BIM), estimating and health and safety.
You’ll be part of the site team, liaising with other site professionals to ensure the project runs smoothly, safely, according to plans and on time.
